ABOUT ME

I’m a born and raised Houstonian. In 1996, I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelors Degree in Journalism – Public Relations. I also have a Master of Arts degree in Literature with a Professional Writing Certificate from the University of Houston – Clear Lake.

I retired from the Houston Police Department after 24 years with more than 8 years in Public Affairs as the department’s social media coordinator. Messaging and crisis communication is critical and requires quick thinking and problem solving skills especially during multi-day events such as Hurricane Harvey or planned events such as when the city of Houston hosted Super Bowl LI.

I have taught social media internally to all ranks within the department and externally to audiences ranging from school children to senior citizens. Keeping current with social media trends and best practices is critical to my job as the social media coordinator for the 4th largest police department.
